new record?.... yes!
I've been telling you for months now that I had a new record on the way. And I do. I'm not gonna lie to you, it's been a tough ride figuring this one out. There has been plenty of soul-searching and gut-wrenching done by everyone involved in trying to lift this thing off the ground and I thank those people for their patience and for offering support through the whole process. I've contemplated a trip to the psychiatric ward more than once!

The last months were spent tearing apart, throwing away, dissecting and gluing my songs back together. We're in the first stages of pre-production on the album with producer David MacKinnon of the Fembots, a Toronto band that I just recently had the pleasure of discovering. Check them out, it's pure, genuine good music. And I'm thrilled about our collaboration!

If you'd like to hear some of the new songs, I've posted a couple of rough demos on myspace. These are the songs in their early stage, I'm sitting at my kitchen table with a pocket-size recorder, nothing fancy. Looking forward to having more to play for you! All the best,

Roxanne

The all mighty Blues Cruise...
Holy crap. What a week!! I feel absolutely renewed and rejuvenated after hearing so much awesome music and mingling with so many music lovers. Truly an experience to be had at least once in a lifetime (having said that I do hope I can go back again and again!!) I'm putting a few pictures up here for you all to see.

I want to say that, as an artist it's my duty to go wherever my creative heart and inspiration takes me. I hope the music I make shows that. But the Blues will ALWAYS be in my heart. I will never leave it behind, it will always be home to my soul. And my wish is to pass on the love I have for the music to the people of my generation. And this past week has confirmed this for me more than ever before.

Deepest thanks to everyone that had to do with bringing me onboard and especially thank you to all the devoted music fans on the ship for showing their love and support in so many ways. All my love, see you soon!

The Everly Brothers rule...
Wednesday, August 01, 2007

They're my most recent musical obsession! It'll be interesting to see how that comes out in the album I'm due to start recording in September, if all goes according to plan :) I can't wait to get this thing started, this year's travels have inspired and taught me beyond all expectations and I think it will be apparent on this new recording. I predict it may be a bit of a sharp turn from my first two albums. I just have to keep digging to find my own voice and I think I'm on to something.... let's see where this leads me next!

I'm now home for a few days between the two short US tours with the Blues Caravan ladies this summer. So far so good! I love that I get to visit the States with this tour, it's so exciting! Not to mention that festival season is always my favorite time of year for playing, mainly because you get to play outdoors and mingle with other bands during the day, when time permits. Actually, I got to do a little site seeing on my own time too, with a road trip to New Orleans and a couple days of driving around LA in June!

Next up is a 4 day trip to Oslo, Norway at the beginning of August where we'll be sharing a festival bill with Jimmie Vaughan and the Neville Brothers. Needless to say that I'm looking forward to it TREMENDOUSLY!! Maybe I can convince them to give me a couple lessons while I'm at it ;)

Hope you are enjoying your summer everybody! You know it's always way too short….

Stranded in Copenhagen! April 1st, 2007
Not a bad place to be stranded, believe me!! Fell in love with this place as soon as I got off the bus :) Maybe it had to do with the weather which was gorgeous that day, maybe it had to do with all men here looking like they're straight out of a Pradda add (no joke! ha!) maybe it has to do with the fact that one of my favorite bands is from here (check out the Figurines, they're awesome!) might also have to do with the fact that people eat ice cream all day it seems haha! Whatever the reason, I'm happy that I missed my flight today! And it's another sunny one to boot! So I'm on my way downtown to have a look around and take in the sights, if you know what I mean ;)

On this exciting note ends the second part of our Blues Caravan tour! It's been a blast, once again I've seen beautiful unknown places (parts of Spain, southern France, Germany, Denmark, Norway, Sweden!!), heard wonderfully strange languages, ate tons of food and had great times with everyone on the tour. To give you an idea of the way the show runs, the ladies (Sue Foley and Deborah Coleman) and I open the show together, play a couple songs, then we each play our own individual sets and end the show together again. In the midst of all this great music and invaluable experience, I’m also learning about the lifestyle that is touring. Indeed, it can be grueling sometimes, the pace, the late nights sleeping on the bus, but the rewards in the end surpass any struggles, incidents, accidents, or back pain for that matter haha!... I have the opportunity to live my dream everyday and there’s no better feeling in the world than that.

Still writing and preparing for the next album, which I'm very happy to announce we are scheduled to start work on in May! It's coming up soon and I'll keep everyone up to date on the progress and adventures as they unfold...

Happy New Year
Hello all! Hope you had lovely holidays with all the friends, loved ones, food and drink one can ask for.... after all, tis the season for overindulgence haha! My holidays were quite fabulous thank you very much :)

Well now it's back to work and work ahead there is plenty of! The 25 show Vinyl Café tour and Ruf recording session in Minneapolis before that kept me busy in December and now I'm preparing for the first part of a 12 week European tour, starting January 25th. The Ruf Records tour caravan this year features Sue Foley, Deborah Coleman and myself and will take us everywhere from Germany to Holland to France and Spain, the States, possibly Japan too! I'm very excited!

As for my own next album, I'm working on new songs and looking forward to going back into the studio with new material this year. I'll let you know as plans unfold.

Well, I can't wait to get going! All the best to you all this year, hope it's a good one :)

Hello everyone!

This note is to apologize for not keeping in touch with you all through my mailing list for so long. My computer's been out of commission since July so I haven't been able to access my database and now as of yesterday, finally getting my computer back from repair, I realized to my utmost dismay that the backup I had made of my hard drive was no good. So. I lost everything. Including my mailing list. YA. I hate computers. And now I'm debating whether to even bother building a new one. Y'all can check my website regularly no?! (sigh!)

July 26, 2006

Hey all! Ya Roxie here, it's been a while I know.... I'm sorry! ;) Still alive and well though and the summer festivals and shows have been really fun so far!

My very first trip to the east coast was a blast a couple of weeks ago, Halifax is a beautiful city (I could totally live there) also for the fact that it has one of the BEST record stores I've ever come across, Taz Records. Their collection is unreal.... I'll be making regular trips from now on I think hehe :) The show in St. John was really fun and I got to sit in with Colin James and his band!! I have some pictures of it and will post them as soon as I can get my computer out of the shop.... Ah technology... ya gotta love it!

Mariposa before that was a wonderful experience, the site sitting on the edge of a beautiful lake was a treat (play, go swimming, play, go swimming... who could ask for a better job??) Great times.... Ottawa, Mont-Tremblant.... awesome!

OH! In other news, I'll be visiting folks out west (Alberta and BC) this coming SEPTEMBER!! I'm thrilled, can't wait to get out there and see that end of the country haha! Dates are on the tour page now!

'Til next time, thanks for all your support, always. I'm blessed to have the opportunity to do what I love most.

See you soon! :)

Hello everyone!!

To the Ottawa and area folk who don't usually listen to commercial radio, here's an incentive: Majic100 (101.1 fm) has added A Love That's Simple to their playlist! It's great news which will hopefully translate into wider exposure and (fingers crossed!) more cd sales!! Woohoo!! To make the most of this wonderful opportunity, take a moment to request A Love That's Simple by calling the Majic100 Request Line at (613) 750-1100.

Thanks in advance!
Looking forward to seeing you all this summer!

Hi everybody!!

Oh my, I can't believe it's been a month since my last newsletter already! I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who came out to our cd release parties in Toronto and Wakefield, to celebrate with us and show their support (and um… buy the new record haha!) Both nights were a tremendous success and I couldn't have been more thrilled to spend these two very special evenings in your company! Once again, THANK YOU!

To our friends in Montreal, tune in to Couleur Jazz 91.9FM to win tickets to our April 20th concert at the Savoy (59 St-Catherine East). It's the only way to get them! Good luck!!

Also on my new website is a link to MySpace, a fun and interactive online community where you can connect with other fans when you sign up as my friend! Join in on the action, I'll be sending an evite soon….

Jammin' Downtown, a CBC special presentation recorded January 2005 in Ottawa and featuring Sarah Slean among other Canadian talent, is receiving it's first nation-wide broadcast April 18th at 11:25pm, immediately following the National This is my first ever performance of La Merveille which I had only written a couple weeks before the show was taped!
